Closing in On Albert Henry’s Mother

Christopher Walker wins the prize! These are preliminary findings, (just photos of the index books for the actual records) but they change the timeline a bit. If you recall, according to Hazel, Albert’s mother Mary Elizabeth Morton Henry died in childbirth and his father Hiram R. Henry remarried when Albert was two years old. This appears to be true, however she did not die birthing Albert. Hiram and Mary had a fourth child (initials H. E. Henry), 15 July 1885.

Christopher found an index to Mary’s death record, and we will have to wait to see what it says. But assuming she died on or around 15 July, 1885 when poor Albert was a mere 14 months old, in which case Hiram remarried only three months after his mother’s death and 17-month-old Albert was sent to his aunt Dicey.

*Update*

I didn’t have access to this site for a few years but I did order the above mentioned documents back in 2016. The death record for Mary appears to be a different person. I uploaded it for posterity but we still have no record for Mary Morton Henry’s death or burial.

However, we do now have the birth record for Hiram and Mary’s fourth child (below). There’s no name listed, however Christopher noted it says the initials “H.E.” under Mary’s name in the index (above). My guess is that both Mary and the child died in childbirth. The record states the family resided in Cooperstown and Hiram worked as a laborer.

In other very exciting news, we now have our first ever image of Mary Elizabeth Morton Henry! This is a portrait if Mary and Hiram uploaded by Ancestry user CynaraTracieKluever40.
